Florence Art Week: this year's edition starts on September 28th, with a rich and multifaceted program.
From the possibility of visiting the most famous historic buildings, to the works of international artists of the twentieth century and the novelty of dozens of prestigious historic homes that are opening to the public.
Historic homes for Florence Art Week
With the collaboration of national and international institutions, this year's edition of Florence Art Week offers a panorama of 11 days of programming, from September 28th to October 8th. More than 40 events in 32 locations in the city, with 44 institutions involved to offer a complete overview of modern art, inserted in the most beautiful locations in the city. One of the events not to be missed is the opening of 46 historic homes to the public, organized with the collaboration of theAssociation of Italian Historic Homes. It is homes that are usually open only to scholars, and which during Florence Art Week also open their treasures to the public, with the possibility of guided tours.

Archivi.doc, an opportunity not to be missed
The event is called Archivi.doc, and its inclusion in the Florence Art Week presents itself as an unmissable opportunity for discover otherwise unattainable assets. Each residence opens its archives revealing files, photographs, correspondence between people who have marked national and international history and art, registers, parchments, diplomas and documents of historic families, records, musical scores and reports of parties and events of the great dynasties. A series of documents that allows us to reconstruct pieces of the history of Tuscany, Italy and Europe. Each residence organizes exhibitions, meetings, guided tours and tastings. A great opportunity to visit these prestigious residences: villas, castles, palaces and gardens.

Florence Art Week and Anish Kapoor
Among the sections dedicated to modern art, one of the most anticipated events is the exhibition organized at Palazzo Strozzi UntrueUnreal designed and created with Anish Kapoor, the famous master who revolutionized the idea of sculpture in contemporary art. The exhibition offers a journey through installations, original forms and intimate environments, in an original dialogue between the modern works, the historical architecture of the building and the public of visitors. A journey that allows you to explore all the characteristics of Anish Kapoor's art, including a new production conceived specifically to enter into dialogue with the splendid Renaissance courtyard. This section, although starting as part of the Florence Art Week, will continue until February 2024.
Modern Art
Palazzo Medici Riccardi instead presents a section dedicated to the work of Fortunato Depero, a futurist painter and sculptor from the first half of the twentieth century, who also worked on tapestries, scenography and the production of advertising campaigns. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Museo Novecento. The Museo Novecento is also the center of a series of exhibitions dedicated to other contemporary artists, such as photographic works by Robert Mapplethorpe and thirty works by the English painter Cecily brown, which is exhibiting her works in Florence for the first time. This section is programmed in tandem between the Museo Novecento and Palazzo Vecchio. Cecily Brown, who currently resides in the United States, has exhibited in various countries and her works are also present at the Solomon Guggenheim Collection.
Other projects of the Florence Art Week
Florence Art Week offers a rich series of other events with videos, exhibitions, installations and the use of advanced technologies. But there will also be exhibitions that are on the border between visual arts, dance and performance, which show the fluidity and evolution of languages and the continuous interaction with the public and the surrounding environment. Also unique are the projects that build works using waste materials from photographic studios, recovered and manipulated. Here the emphasis is on the dialogue between the different materials and details of the images.
Salvatore Ferragamo
The Florence Art Week also includes a series of extraordinary temporary openings. Among these, the interesting one is of the historical archive of the Salvatore Ferragamo Foundation. Through drawings, documents, photographs, films, prototypes and products it is possible to retrace all the phases of the company's history, from its foundations to the latest developments. An invaluable treasure both for those in the industry, for fashion lovers, and in general to learn about a piece of Italian history and economy.

The widespread events
Guided tours of the city's main historical and artistic monuments, such as the Santa Croce complex, enrich the week. But Florence Art Week also offers a rich program of performances, concerts and theatrical plays, with the involvement of the main institutional and cultural realities of the city. Also in this case, it will be possible to attend performances by famous artists who propose very different musical languages and traditions and the dialogue between different cultures, in search of ever new expressive methods. A union between the research and study of ancient ethnic music and more current methods, to communicate with art the evolution of man and the world.
